Seed dispersal is the way in which a plant’s seeds are distributed across a large area to increase their chance of survival and spreading their range of growth. Clever tricks used by plants include using the wind – like sycamore seeds which fly like helicopters, or dandelion seeds which are like parachutes. They also can also stick to animal fur and bird feathers, or have explosive projectile seeds like Himalayan Balsam. And many seeds are found in tasty fruits – birds or animals eat the fruit and the seeds pass right through and come out with the poo! Lots of tomato plants grow in sewage works…
