Never! although I feel like i don’t have time to get bored at work. There’s always something to do, experiments in progress, people to talk to, papers to read and write. I think if I got bored with science I would for sure find something else to do, but there is little danger of that. It’s such a stimulating thing to do as a job. Occasionally I have to do experiments that are a bit repetitive and mindless, but usually this comes as a relief and gives me a chance to relax my mind
No! Plants are so amazingly diverse (just count how many different shaped leaves you can see in the nearest park!) this means that there is always something interesting to try to work out. Even when I have been working on the same question for a long time, every day is still different (experiments, reading, conferences, writing, data analysis, giving talks) which keeps everything interesting. Sometimes its really nice to do something repetitive – e.g. data entry- so I can listen to an audiobook!
