Hi Matilda. At school I studied English, Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Ancient History and Italian. My favourite subject was probably Italian as I find learning languages really fun. I also found Biology and Ancient History really interesting. I honestly didn’t like Maths or Chemistry at all but I had to study them to get into a science degree at university. Even though I didn’t like them they did teach me lots of useful skills for a future in science.
Hi Matilda and Elliot – for my GCSEs* I enjoyed Biology most of all and was also pretty keen on Chemistry and Latin too. I quite enjoyed English as well though I’m ashamed to admit that I couldn’t really see the point in learning it because… well I already speak it full time! However as I now spend my working days writing, and really thinking about the words I use, I’m glad I persisted. Although I never took any exams in it I also studied music lessons at school.

I studied Biology, Chemistry, Physics for A level and also did an AO in Maths which is harder than an O level but easier than an A level.

*when I was at school I did O levels, GCSEs appeared a couple of years after I did my exams
My favourite subjects at school were Maths, Physics, sometimes Chemistry and English. But I studied lots of subjects in school at GCSEs. I had to study Welsh, English, Information Technology, Physical and Religious Education, Maths and all the sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics). Then I got to choose Geography, History, Graphic Design and Extra Extra Science!
Hi Matilda, my favourite subjects were geography and drama. I studied both at A-level and considered doing drama instead of science. But, in the end, I was too interested in learning about the physical environment and geosciences, so I went on to study environmental science at university 🙂
I went to school in India, where the education system is different from that in the UK. For the equivalent of A-levels, I studied Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English. For the equivalent of GCSEs, I also had history, geography, civics, and Hindi (an Indian language). I liked all the subjects in school but my favorites were Mathematics and Physics, and certain aspects of Chemistry (inorganic Chemistry) and Biology (cognition, learning, and control in animals and humans). For someone who spend a lot of their time working with computers, I did not do any computing or computer science in school!
