I enjoyed my science lessons at school and then thought the Chemistry course and the labs at university looked really cool, when I went on Open Days. Then, as part of my degree I did a year placement in a lab, where I loved getting to do a mixture of experiments and ‘desk’ work for a job. This made me want to get a job as a scientist when I graduated, as it’s an interesting, rewarding and varied career 🙂

Curiosity was the main reason for me, being heavily involved with sports I didn’t think of becoming a scientist as a career until part way through my undergraduate degree when I decided I would rather be a scientist than sportsman

When I was little, I watched the Disney film, Basil the Great Mouse Detective, and in that film Basil has the most incredible chemistry set and uses it to catch the bad guy (mouse). From watching that film, I was completely hooked on science!

I decided to become a scientist when I was in uni and I had really good teachers in some of the science subjects like cell biology. They woke up some curiosity in me and I started being fascinated learning about the processes in the cell that made all the magic of life happen. So I wanted to learn more and more!

I always had lots of questions about the world around me and I realised that I could answer those by being a scientist 🧐
