My favourite thing to analyse is chocolate products and their ingredients. I find it really cool to see how the different ingredients look at high magnifications, like milk powder has very round particles with lots of tiny air bubbles! Then, when we analyse the final products (for example: a bar of Cadbury’s dairy milk with reduced sugar) we can use fluorescent staining to see where the different indredients are located and how they’ve interacted!
It might sound kind of gross but in my job I get to analyse blood and urine and I find it super interesting. There’s so many things just floating around in your body, which changes depending on your DNA, if your feeling happy/sad, or even depending on what you’ve eaten that day. Analysing what is floating around in our body (and what comes out of it) can help us to understand better how it works
