Before working in Durham, I worked in Arizona (Tucson, USA). I lived there for three years and was also doing research in physics there. I was a ‘post-doc’, which means that I have a PhD, but I was only hired there for a short-term contract. It was quite wonderful; it was sunny all the time, I had a jacuzzi and a swimming pool there, and I could see hummingbirds flying in the cacti while having breakfast on my patio 😀
Before that I was living in Brussels for two years, doing a postdoc in research there as well. It was also nice there, very international, and a lot of fun in this city.
And even before that I was living in a suburb of Paris (that’s where I grew up).
Overall, I did only research (and a little bit of teaching) in universities, but everywhere I worked he atmosphere, the working style, and of course the country, were different, so it was a very rich experience, that I would recommend to anyone!
