It might seem flat for particles travelling around at the speed of light, but from our perspective it is most definitely round, as we have made ourselves sure many times already. People are watching our beautiful, almost spherical, planet from the International Space Station every day! Actually, at one point I joined the Flat Earth Society group on Facebook with the goal of educating those people with facts a bit… Well, let’s say it was hard to impossible… Maybe I need to increase my communication skills…? 😀
Oh, and at some point I’ve come across an opinion that the FLAT EARTH society has members all AROUND THE GLOBE. That made me laugh a lot 😀
Flat-Earthers sometimes make me angry- it takes intentional, wilful ignorance to believe in things so blatantly false. This kind of anti-science rhetoric is intensely frustrating (and totally bewildering), and people who push it forward can rarely be reasoned with- they are often trolls or actively malicious.
It can be an interesting thought experiment though; what would the Earth be like if it actually was flat?
I find it hard to explain why people think Flat Earth is real… we have photographs of the Earth which show that it’s spherical! I was once approached by people who were part of the Flat Earth Society trying to convince me.. I think my favourite argument was that the Earth was completely encased in a huge dome! It feels like an episode of the Simpsons
Well the Earth is obviously not flat. I find it amazing that, despite all the evidence we have, there are some people that still don’t accept this fact!
