Yes, very much! I like to see physics as a mixture of maths and a bit of a fine art. At some point, I came across a thesis that studied the mind of an artist, compared to that of a scientist. The results were that these two are surprisingly similar – the most notable point is, that both artists and scientists need to be creative.
Art is a large part of science- We just don’t usually do a good job of acknowledging this. When I make images for publications, I am making art- I am trying to convey meaning with an image. I have spent hours in the past coding rendering programs to make 3-D images of molecules that are both asthetically pleasing and informative.
I would also be willing to bet that many scientists are also artists. A lot of my friends in science play an instrument, sing, draw or create other kinds of art. Creativity is important in science, so I am never surprised when my science freinds are also creatives.
