Living on the moon will be always difficult. No air, no atmosphere. So, like for Mars, the solution is to go underground. The moon should actually have large caves produced when gas was still trapped in the magma in the core of the moon. By pressurising one of such large caves it would be possible to create the basic conditions to live on the Moon. It should be possible to collect water from the moon poles which will be used to produce oxygen and to fuel rockets. Still, to start such endeavour many trips to the moon would be required and given the costs and risks of such trips the colonisation of the moon will not happen any time soon.
I think Michele has said it all really. I’m pretty sure there are already plans by the UK and US to set up a base on the moon – which would be amazing to see and I hope if it is going to happen that it happens in my lifetime! 😀 Living on the moon permanently… Would it have any long term side affects to your health? Would the moon be able to provide us with everything we needed? Living underground is definitely the key but I really don’t know how or when this will happen. There moon would have to be set up as a base for a long time before we started to think about colonization – so that plenty of research can be done beforehand. The next generation of scientists brings the next big inventions and developments in technology – so I guess it is really up to you when we will be able to get there! 😉
