For now my goal is to get my PhD and pass my exam before christmas! Then I will be qualified to get a higher research position if I wanted to 🙂 I’m working on getting a paper published at the minute too so thats high up on my goals list 😉

Like Jackie, I’m also a PhD Student, only I’m near the start so my goals are to get my code working and see if it can really do what my supervisor and I want it to!

I’m actually in a centre for condensed matter research, so overall we’re interested in understanding everything we can about different states of matter, but especially solids and liquids. More specific research aims include finding superconductivity, developing new electronics, and even quantum computing!

Now that the Higgs boson has been discovered we want to understand all its properties. That is the first goal of the next run of the LHC which will start in few weeks from now.
Taking a step back and looking at the open questions in particle physics I think the next major discovery will need to explain what is dark matter. Then there is the hierarchy problem to be understood, but for that there are several dedicated experiments.

I work in the Teschnology department at the STFC (Science Technology and Facilities Council) – so our goal is to be able to build whatever crazy, extreme technology CERN and the other facilities want next.
