Publishing my first paper was a pretty good feeling 🙂 and having other people read and cite your work is nice. Since my research is more maths based I do calculations for other people mainly. So they might need results for something but not know the techniques needed to get those results – and thats where I come in! Its good to think that you are one of few people in the world with that expertise, but also a lot of pressure sometimes!

I’m very early in my research, so not a whole lot to be honest. I published and edited version of my master’s thesis at computer science conference — it was regarding the possibility of using a videogame to generate research data for quantum physics — that was pretty cool!

Since then, I’ve moved in to a new area, and have spent the last few months writing code — I actually just got it working last Friday! This isn’t much of an achievement within my field since it’s just my own version of a code that other people already use, but it was a big achievement personally, and means I can finally begin my project properly. The code uses some neat mathematical tricks to find the lowest energy state of a lot of quantum particles. It was quite tricky to get right!

My results on Higgs self coupling at the ILC have been a major contribution to the LoI and TDR of the ILC. My results, although not moving in the direction everyone hoped, contributed in shaping those documents.

In ATLAS I worked on an analysis which is being published as we speak and I am involved in another one that should be ready by the end of summer.
