Gravity is fairly fundamental law of physics, so I can only really imagine us mastering it in the sense of learning how to overcome it more effectively – like with rocket suits or something 😉 I’m not sure that you could cancel it out altogether.
I think given that we have planes, hot-air balloons, helicopters and space-ships we sort of already have! Although if you mean the ability to turn it off an on at will, probably not I’m afraid :/
Vicky might be on to something with the rocket suits though!
Yeah Ollie is right – we have conquered gravity by putting passenger jets up in the sky and breaking out of our own atmosphere with rockets and sending spacecraft into orbit and to the moon 🙂 I would like to think that one day we will master gravity – as long as it doesn’t fall into the hands of an evil mastermind we should be ok, right?! 😛 I suppose we have really strong magnets which can make things levitate these days… so why not a full anti-gravity machine in the future? I’d like to think its not impossible 😉 I would love it if you could switch gravity on and off in somewhere like the international space station – then at least you could feel an “up” and “down” and astronauts wouldn’t have as many health problems like a decrease in bone density when they came back down to Earth
