When I was at school I would probably have said PE, as I just enjoyed playing sports and getting outside the classroom. But in general my other favourite subject is History, I read a lot of historical books and always try to visit places like museums and castles when I get to travel.

Philosophy and ethics was my favourite subject at school, probably followed by Psychology. I like to debate topics and try and see as many sides as possible, which we spent a lot of time doing in philosophy and ethics!

English! I love writing and the skills you get from English are so important in science – most of our job (later in the career) is actually writing and presenting.

I loved history and was sad that I couldn’t do it for A level. Now I read lots of history books and also have a strong interest in archeaology

Psychology was a class I loved and it’s actually what really drew me into science as I was fascinated by the neuroscience I encountered there. From there I was drawn more into neurobiology and genetics. But I do still love all of the other aspects of psychology as well.

Beyond that, I also always loved history and English.

For me it was history, because finding out about people used to live in the past and in different parts of the world was very interesting.. and then also German which is my native language as I really love reading books

Without a doubt Art! My school sadly wouldn’t let me do it for A-level as they thought it wouldn’t help me getting in to vet school (this is not true!). To express yourself through painting and drawing is such great fun and very relaxing

Music! I have always loved classical music and I actually studied it professionally for a while. I wanted to be an orchestra conductor and tour around the world. However, I eventually realised what I really wanted to do with my life was biological research. I was fortunate enough to be in an educational system that allowed me to change fields so drastically.

I really enjoyed Design Technology (DT/CDT)! I really like working with my hands and it made me think about how to design and make things that are needed to solve problems!

That’s what I love about what I do now as well, I’m developing something for a niche and get to do practical work in the lab and the greenhouse!

History, at school I didn’t like it so much as you had to write massive essays for your exams. Now I’m older though and you don’t have exams anymore I find it so interesting learning and reading about the past!

      Music and music tech.
I think programmes like Garage Band which let you create amazing music or sounds without necessarily knowing how to play an instrument are great.
