I did have some doubts after graduating as I applied for a lot of jobs which I never heard back on before I received my first interview. But once I had the job it wasn’t about being a scientist anymore, but doubts can and do crop up from time to time if I’m selected for a special task or so.
But about 70% of people will experience Imposter Syndrome at some point in their lives, so it’s not unusual have doubts like that. The important thing is not to let it stop you from trying or saying yes to opportunities.
I did, and took a year out working as a youth worker in London in my 20s. This both convinced me that science was what I should be doing in my career, and also taught me a lot about people and life which has been invaluable ever since
