Stephen Hawking has a debilitative (loss of strength and energy) condition called motor neurone disease which develops over time. I think he started to develop the condition in his 20’s and it is remarkable he’s still here at 70 years old. This disease causes the nerve cells that control the muscles used for speaking, walking, swallowing etc. to break down and die. (Motor neurone means a nerve cell that controls the muscle).
