Funding funding funding. Ever questing for more funding. Its an especially big problem at the moment with the world wide recession. At the moment we (the collaboration im a part of) are applying for on the order of a million euros to build our next experiment.

Always funding…need funding for equipment and resources…one of the limitations to my work at the moment is not having access to a biosafety level 3 laboratory to be able to safely carry out research with more dangerous viruses like Japanese encephalitis virus or West Nile virus.

Time! It can difficult to fit in everything you want to do. I’m lucky that my project is well funded, at least just now, but I know funding is almost always the thing holding back so much research.

Money in the NHS is very tight at the moment so it’s difficult to bring in new tests and analysers into the lab. You need to to justify exactly why you need the money and we’re forever writing business cases. Management are much stricter on what we can spend money on now.
