As a rule I do not eat processed meat (no sausage, lasagne, burgers etc). It has grossed me out for a long time because of all the dubious stuff they put in there. When the horse meat scandel broke I can proudly say I didn’t say ‘told you so’.

I became suspicious about cheap processed meat when BSE (‘mad cow disease’) first emerged…there is nothing wrong health-wise with eating horse meat, but it is worrying that the people making the foods don’t know what is in it…what next?!

I don’t really eat much meat anyway, apart from if I go our for dinner, and eat processed meals rarely so I don’t think I’ve changed my diet much. However, I think it’s awful that the horsemeat scandal has happened. Although horsemeat isn’t harmful, people have the right to know what they’re eating.

My girlfriend is a vegetarian, so I don’t eat any meat at home. I think the horsemeat scandal will be a wake up call to people who eat too many ready meals quick fix dinners.
