Question: How easy was it to become a lecturer and why did you decide to do this?

It’s something I decided to do because I like teaching people. Also, because the money for science is usually provided in 3 – 5 year chunks for a particular project, there is not very good job security as a researcher. As a lecturer, you have the guarantee of being needed all the time for teaching and can do some research too. It isn’t very easy to become a lecturer because there are not so many positions available – I was lucky that Nottingham opened a new vet school so needed lots of new lecturers!
