Mucus occurs naturally in the nasal passage. When we breath, tiny particles of dust and dead skin and anything in the air around us fly up our nostrills. These partciles get trapped by the hairs inside our nose and mix with the mucus. This creates bogies!

We produce secretions (mucus) to help clear bugs and rubbish from our noses. Bogeys are just mixes of dried mucus, and rubbish that we’ve breathed in. Which is why when you’re in a dirty big city your bogeys can be black!

It’s the build up of dirt and mucus in the hairs in our nostrils
