• Question: WHY did you want to be a Mathematician?

      For me, that’s like asking ‘why do you like burgers?’ – really hard to answer – I just did!

      All I know is that I liked maths, and was good at maths, so it seemed natural that I would want to do it as a job.

      It’s hard to explain why I like maths. I think I’ve always been fascinated by patterns and understanding how things fit together. Maths is all about patterns, whether that’s patterns in numbers, or shapes, or graphs, or giant sets of data. I like spotting patterns, and I like using those patterns to make predictions and work out answers. That’s what a lot of scientists and engineers have to do.
