This is a great question! There are lots of tissues that make up the lungs.

The main tissue is called “alveolar epithelium”. This contains the cells that make up the sacs that exchange air in the lungs.

There is another type of “epithelium” tissue that lines the brochioles, which are the large tubes that lead from your throat down into your lungs. The cells in this tissue are very mixed, but include cells which produce mucous to trap bacteria.

There are tissues surrounding the lungs that connect everything together as well.
