for a career in science you need to do a degree in the subjest you wanted to work in. A Batchelor of Science in the starting point for just about every scientic job you will apply for. However I do have Lad Aids who don’t have anything more than GCSE’s, but they are limited to doing the very basics under supervision, that said they are hard working and very good at what they do.

Most scientists have a degree in science, that can be very broad eg applied biology or targeted towards something they want to do eg forensic science.

As Bob says, people with a few good GCSE’s (grade C or above) can work as lab technicians so can be part of a research team, but generally the better the qualifications you have, the more oppertunties you will get. Generally most of the scientists who get to test out their own ideas have done a PhD. A PhD takes about 3 years to complete and usually only people who get very good degrees get a chance to study for a PhD.
