      Light is a form of energy – atoms release energy when they are heated up – there are two kinds of light that they can produce – incandescence occurs when entire atoms vibrate (like in a fire) and luminescence involves only the electrons.

      Yes, and the light can sometimes tell you which metals/compounds are being burnt – sometimes they turn blue or green rather than just yellow!
