From school, I wanted to pursue subjects that I found interesting which lead me down the path of studying Biomedical Engineering. During uni I found out about a job where you can work in science and engineering but also work alongside patients, and use problem solving to help people, which seemed like a great fit for me and from there I decided that’s what I wanted to do!
When I was studying biology I already sort of knew I wanted to help other people in some way, but I was able to go abroad to Singapore to study for a year and that really changed things for me. In Singapore they have lots of infectious diseases that we don’t have here, and it affects their daily lives. For example, when I first moved I had to be tested for tuberculosis like everyone else who was international. That made me want to study tuberculosis and other infectious diseases.
