      I think it’s very rewarding yes! Even if my work is only a tiny part of research in this area, it is great to know that the work we are doing could help people in the future. I also love doing outreach events like this one and find them very rewarding too. I get to talk about science and hopefully get other people excited about science!

      Yes, I think so: I get to regularly calculate things or make measurements that no-one else has done before; I get to mentor, advise and generally help some great research students develop; and I get to travel to a lot of cool places. I’m also constantly learning new things, and hanging around interesting & intelligent people. So many positives!

      As you get more senior and start being put in charge of things, there are also more committee meetings, more spreadsheets, and so-on, but it’s all part of making good science and good teaching happen. So even the most tedious meetings do have a good (and rewarding) reason to exist.

    Yes, but also tough at times. It’s a roller-coaster between very rewarding, very interesting and challenging, and then times when you feel like the world’s biggest idiot. The ride seems to get easier with time, but it’s always been interesting
