I usually start around half 9 in the morning and finish around 7. However, I’ve also worked later than that having started later and I sometimes do weekend work. It just depends on when various bits of equipment are available and how much time pressure I’m under for a deadline

I wrangle kids at the ends of the 9-5 day and have an hour commute, so I’m either in work by 8.30 and work until 4.14, or from 10-6.15. After dinner I’ll usually start again and work — ideally on stuff I *want* to do, that I probably didn’t get a chance to do during the day — until 11 or 12. I think most people are a bit more sane. Sometimes I’m too tired, and sometimes I’ll book in some squash or band practice to save me from myself!

I start work at 7:30 and end at 4-4:30, but I have flexible hours. I will sometimes work more extended hours, say 7:30-6:00 if I have an expensive piece of kit booked on a day.

I’m going to sound like a slacker compared to the others! I’m a PhD student so it’s studying rather than a ‘proper’ job. My working hours are very flexible and I can choose when I work as long as I get my work done. I normally work around 9:30/10 to 5:30, but sometimes I’ll leave early one day and then work later another day. I can also take 8 weeks holiday a year!

Working in science can be very flexible and you can often choose when in the day to work. I try to work at least 8 hours a day, but I often get so absorbed into what I’m doing and don’t realise time passing, which means I work a bit longer! (That’s because I love it though!)

I work at a lab- usually about 9-5.30, but it’s fairly flexible if I need a bit more time in bed in the morning…
