• Question: How did you decide you wanted the job you do because there is so many jobs in physics?

      Oooh tough question!
      I’ve knew since about year 10 that I wanted to be a physicist, but didn’t know exactly what job.
      I took one decision at a time and they’ve led to where I am now!
      The first 3 years of a university physics course are quite broad, then in the 4th year you do a big research project.
      From the list of projects, there was one that mixed particle physics with education and it really jumped out at me.
      I loved that project and then a PhD opportunity came up to develop this work with a supervisor that was perfect for me.
      Here I am now, loving that PhD opportunity!
      How about you, does a physics career sound appealing?

    i think I always suspected that I wanted to do a physics job at a university, rather than applied physics in a company: the stuff I was interested in was the abstract theory ideas, and the big questions about how the universe works. I also do like teaching, and helping people to understand complex ideas. It’s still a bit amazing to me that this actually worked out, but it’s certainly what I wanted!
