      As far as we know, evolution has happened as long as things have been alive. When DNA replicates, it makes mistakes. These mistakes result in mutations. Whenever a mutation occurs, it either helps, hurts, or does nothing. If the mutation is passed onto future generations in such a way that changes the way that life form exists, it results in evolution.
