A Punnett Square is a simplified way to look at genetics. It can show how traits can be passed from parents to children, and how dominant and recessive traits work. This website (https://www2.palomar.edu/anthro/mendel/mendel_2.htm) has some good visuals.

While these are useful for basic understanding, they don’t give the full picture of how genetics work. We now have a more complex understanding and know that a lot of traits don’t have simple dominant or recessive genes; for example, someone with one parent that has green eyes and one parent with brown eyes can have hazel eyes, which is a mix of the two.
