      While not an experiment, when i was working at the Hospital (my first job in Microbiology). We had a sample come down from a really ill patient which we had to check for diseases. The sample in the end was found to contain prions (misfolded proteins that can cause disease) which cause the disease Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (or CJD for short). CJD is a scary disease because it has no known cure once you get it and it has a 100% fatality rate. Although we were well protected it still scared me!
