Question: How do different foundations stand up to earthquakes?

The trick to build buildings that are earthquake-safe is to make them flexible!: I remember reading an article a while ago on different building styles (I believe one of them was to use fairly flexible metal beams rather than concrete), but I’m afraid I don’t know much more about it than that!
