• Question: would a layer of copper wire in a criss cross patern be able to absorb the energy of a lightning strike and preserve it for the plains use or would it not be strong enough?

Hello there – do you want my job?! A layer of copper in a criss cross pattern is exactly what is currently used to protect carbon-fibre aircraft against lightning strikes. It doesn’t absorb the energy but can spread the electricity around the plane to prevent damage.
