There are many theories explaining why we yawn when we see someone else yawning. When we yawn we take in more oxygen, making us more awake – some biologists believe yawning was used by cavemen to raise alertness in times of danger when they lived in groups and has been mentally wired into our brains.
Scientists also think people copy yawning to show they’re in touch with their feelings and are embarrassed not to.
Have you tried not yawning when you see someone else doing it? It’s very hard!
You won’t 🙂 believe, I yawned when I saw this question, which clearly shows that I was refreshing my brain cells to answer this question! 🙂
Sometimes when we yawn in the class that is boring or difficult for us, we are actually making our brain cells alive take in more oxygen by doing so.
On the other hand we also yawn when we are very sleepy or tired, in that case we are just trying to take in as much oxygen as we can to keep ourselves awake, this is the natural reflex of the body.
