Hi amyanimals, Your question reminded me of something funny that I was expected to do as a part of my field work Haha
So I had to measure physical activity in adolescents using these wrist watch sized instruments called ‘accelerometers’ which had to worn on the waist. As a part of initializing the activity, I had to cut out belts from a spool of elastic and then I had to fasten buckles to each of them and then tie an accelerometer to each of the belts so that they can be worn on the waist. And guess what I had to do that for about 100 of them 🙁 That day I understood how much patience a tailor has!!!
It took me nearly a day and I was really bored, but at the end it was probably worth it.
I find one particular task in my job fairly boring – actually making the agar. Before water is added and the liquid is poured into petri dishes, agar starts off as a powder. Lots of different compounds are added to a large jar containing ceramic balls to blend the powder to the same particle size. This can mean standing for an hour adding lots of different powders – which can be a bit boring!
