It’s hard to think of a single experiment….one of the most fun experiments I’ve done is when I was at University where we made Sauerkraut (pickled cabbage) using bacteria – I had no idea at the time how microbes were used to make food (they’re also used to make cheese, beer, yoghurt and much more).
Since leaving University one of the best experiments was showing a new antibiotic killed a superbug called MRSA over time – that was quite cool!
Not exactly the most important experiment, but defiantly one of the best. I’ve been developing a programming system to make it easy for kids in KS3 to write programs, and use it to actually control real hardware, and I build this as a demo of the system.
I put a couple of light sensors into some hot wheels track and used them to measure the time it took for a car to cross one section track – it turns out toy cars do about 11km/h when you run them down a track from a height of about 1m.
If I win I want to use the cash to fund robot kits which can also be used to do experiments like this.
