      Good question!

It’s made mainly of muscle, nerve fibres, blood vessels and taste buds. We have 5 types of taste buds which sense sour, sweet, savoury, bitter or salty flavours. When we eat a salty food, it’s sensed by the salty taste buds which sends a signal to our brain telling us we’re eating a salty food. We have up to 10,000 taste buds on our tongue!
