Luckily no. The worst part about injuring yourself at work is the amount of paperwork that follows, and the fact that you’d probably be stopped doing whatever it was you were doing when you got hurt, which kind of gets in the way of research. We have to take safety very seriously and write risk assessments for each test.
But…..we quite often perform new tests on ourselves and I’ve been hurt quite a few times doing that, but never anything serious.
I had one due to burning myself at work – but it wasn’t serious and it’s gone now (it was down to my own stupidity!). We have lots of safety precautions in the lab and wear protective clothing if we’re handling anything that can potentially cause an injury (such as special gloves or glasses).
