      Your question is interesting because, there is no straightforward answer to this! This is one of the most debated questions in this field.Some scientists argue that a lot about diabetes has to do with genes while the others say that genes have a little role to play.

      If diabetes is caused due to bad diet or lack of exercise, then I am afraid it would be difficult to create genetic modifications to cure that. However, if it is genetic (which in many cases it is) that is when particular hormone called insulin is not made appropriately, then a gene replacement can definitely help.
