More than a lot of people who have a lot less fun at work.

Scientists generally don’t get rich – at least not by doing science, but if most scientists suddenly got rich, they’d probably use the money do let them do more science!

Being a scientist hardly ever makes people rich – unless you’re lucky and discover an amazing cure! But we do get to discover new things about the universe every day, which is great fun.

As a PhD student I earn enough to live off, but not much more – but once you become a lecturer/professor you are better paid.

I’d much rather be a scientist earning less than have a really boring office job that pays better!

How much is a lot? I get paid a good salary which I can live on comfortably. Science can be a well paid job, but more importantly is very rewarding, interesting and even exciting – it’s far more important to enjoy what you do everyday than be rich!

No. But I earn enough for now and would never describe myself as ‘skint’. You learn very quickly that money isn’t such a big issue, I’d never do a job I hate because it paid well.
