As people get older, the skin loses some of its elasticity (or stretchiness). This is completely normal of course, and is the reason that people get wrinkles.

Interesting question 🙂 wrinkles are a natural part of getting older unfortunately 🙁 This is because as we get older our skin becomes less elastic. Our skin is made up of a layer of elastic fibres, these are like elastic bands and they help our skin to stretch when we move around. The problem is as we get older these fibres do not spring back as well, and so the skins starts to appear wrinkly. There is an experiment you can do to show/understand this. If you pinch the skin on your hand it will spring back immediately. However if you do this to a grandparent (after asking their permission to gentle pull the skin!), it will take much longer for their skin to go back due.
