Its a good question with a long answer.
Lots of reasons really!
I haven’t always wanted to be a doctor. When I first went to Uni I thought I just wanted to research cancer. My dad was very unwell with cancer when I was in primary school – so I suppose if I had any person it was my dad – but I didn’t meet an amazing doctor and think “wow! I want to do that”.

When I finished my first degree I knew I wanted to still research cancer – but I had met quite a few people training to be doctors and I thought it seemed like a good way to both research but also treat people directly. It meant I could be at the cutting edge of research – rather than looking at things that might take decades to produce.

Actually research always takes a long time – but I have finally got to a stage where I can do doctoring and researching. I am very privileged to be in such a place – but I have worked very hard, and continue to work very hard to be here!
