      The short answer: yes.
Adrenal insufficiency is where, for various reasons, your adrenal glands cannot produce many of the natural steroids you’re body needs to function properly.
Steroids perform many roles in the body – and in particular the adrenal glands produce steroids called mineralocorticoids and glucocorticoids.
The names aren’t important but the thing to remember is these steroids allow your body to respond to things that will “stress” your body. I don’t mean things that frustrate you – but everything from going on a run to having an infection. Even just getting up in the morning requires these steroids!
These are different in nature to the anabolic steroids you might read about body-builders taking in order to gain muscle mass (which, for different reasons, is a stupid thing to do)

There are many, many reasons for adrenal insufficiency – but often people will require to be on lifelong steroids in order to replace the ones the body cannot make. This can also cause problems however.
Adrenal insufficiency can vary in severity (some people have much worse versions than others) – but generally yes, this is a bad thing!
