• Question: Do you use a 3D printer

      I personally don’t, but as it happens I have a younger sister who is studying mechanical engineering. They often use it to create small models of their designs.

      Yes, we have an awesome 3D printer lab in our department, I think there are 3 in there at the minute. They are used for all sorts of things – I work in a Dental Hospital so one person is using them to 3D print parts to fill in holes in the mouth that some babies are born with for example. In my team, along with a Mechanical Engineer I work with, we are 3D printing materials which contain antimicrobials – we are hoping to be able to make things like door handles and toys for childrens hospital wards where things are handled a lot by different people to try and keep the risk of infecting ill children down.
