Strictly speaking, electricity exists in the natural world – lightning is a great example of electricity in nature. Benjamin Franklin is normally credited with understanding how electricity works and how to conduct it, but there is some evidence that people from 2000 years ago may have attempted to create a battery out of copper plates, tin alloy, and iron rods.

As Andrea said, Benjamin Franklin is the one who understood how electricity works, but electricity exists in the natural world. All of the signals going to the brain and coming from the brain into your body are small electric currents!
