I would say, the following factors are known to be related to the onset of coronary artery disease:

      1) Poor Diet (with some evidence to suggest that a diet containing animal products is also a factor, but this is controversial)

      2) Smoking. This is a strong link that has been proven many times

      3) Genetics. If you have a close family member who suffers, you are much more likely to also suffer

      4) Lack of sleep. It has been shown that night shift workers have a higher incidence of the disease.

      5) Stress.

What Paige said! Plus there’s evidence that a lack of physical activity can also contribute to coronary artery disease.

Really good point 👍 As coronary artery disease is still one of the main causes of medical problems and people sadly passing away around the world – roughly you can split causes of most conditions into hereditary causes like genetics or environmental causes like high fat and high sugar diets, lack of exercise, smoking cigarettes, and other things like high alcohol intake.

All of these effect each other as well so difficult to pick out the most important but all of these are very important points!

Paige answered that well! I think diet and life style is a really big factor. Of course genetics play a big role but lifestyle and diet are things we can control!

I don’t work on this, but the NHS website has some useful information to start with: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronary-heart-disease/causes/

Hi! Everyone gave great answers to this question, so I hope you the topic covered.

If you need more information about how each factor contributes, I think they are described in more detail on the CDC website: https://www.cdc.gov/heartdisease/risk_factors.htm

      Good luck!
