      Hi and thank you for this great question. Crystals help me understand a disease of the joints called arthritis. We found out that a small protein on the cell surface in the joints attaches and reacts to microscopic crystals. This protein is involved in keeping the balance in inflammation and pain in arthritis. So we study this interaction and we try to understand how it all works.
