For a long time I wasn’t quite sure what “being a scientist” (or specifically, an experimental particle physicist) entailed. And now that I’m one, I realise just how vast the field is, and how many different types of experts and scientists there are! You can really do anything and everything, but we all have one thing in common – we love science, and we love what we do 🙂

I always hoped for a job that I enjoyed doing, that getting up every morning was something I looked forward to and not a chore. I can say that my current job and previous jobs that has been true. Although I always get asked why I left a job working with chocolate… And believe me the novelty wears off. There are lots of different jobs I can do, at different places across the country, so I am thankful for that!

There were a lot of times during my education where I felt like I wasn’t going anywhere and that can be a bit scary. However, I found something that I really enjoy learning about and there are new things to discover all the time. I was lucky that I was able to try a new subject at school which helped me find out what I was interested in. It’s all fun and exciting exploring which paths to take, but it can be worrying at the same time. Make sure to speak to your teachers and they can help you to make some decisions if you need.
