• Question: This may be more ethical than scientific but do any of you think that there is a possibility that life itself could just be one minds dream? (if you understand what I mean?)

I have heard philosophers that argue this point. Maybe if we consider that everyone’s perspective on life is different because of their unique accumulation of life experiences – in other words, everyone has their own ‘reality’ to some extent – I could see why philosophers argue this point. But as far as life itself being only a dream, I think personally that this is not true! Many physical science scientists would probably tell you that life is very physical and very real even outside of our minds! But of course, we only PERCEIVE of the world around us through our minds, so it is hard to say!

Have you heard of the women who, as it was found recently, are born with more cones in their eyes, and see a vast number more colors than the rest of us do? Of course, these women don’t KNOW that they are any different from anyone else, because they have always seen this way! It is their own reality… that is an example of where one’s perception of the world really does become one’s own version of reality. Interesting, right? Look up ‘Plato’s Allegory of the Cave’ for more interesting examples of individual reality.

There used to be this TV show called Twin Peaks which turned out to be all a dream of one of the characters.

Anythings possible. No offence, but if me answering this question is all part of your dream, what does that make my life? I’d be pretty gutted if that’s all my life was about (again no offence meant what so ever). I like to think I’m master of my own destiny – I’ve been wrong before though.

If so the mind would have to understand physics beyond our understanding. Because it allows us to make scientific discoveries. Because we know quantum mechanics can produce random events, I doubt that the mind could do that. We would find it hard to dream a perfect random sequence. So I’m guessing this life is ours and ours alone.
