I would say Alan Turing! We owe a lot of our modern computing ability to him. Going further back I’d choose Leonardo da Vinci, a fascinating polymath of a scientist!
I would say Margarita Salas, she sadly passed away this year but she was a tremendous biochemist and an icon and inspiration for women to study science at her time. She patented an enzyme called phage29 DNA polymerase and was lucky to work with Severo Ochoa, another great scientist.
I would say Frances Arnold. She won the nobel prize and wasn’t afraid to admit it when her lab made a mistake. It takes a lot of courage as a scientist to admit error.
My favourite scientist is Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell. She is an astrophysicist and an astronomer. She is well known for the discovery of pulsars. I love that she works towards lifting up women and minorities in the field of science which is seen through the donations she has made towards this cause over the years.
