I love meeting civil engineers who are members of my organisation (ICE) – they do such amazing work… I got sent a film by a group who won some travel-award money yesterday all about their trip to the Philippines to find out about the use of bamboo as a construction material. It was so interesting what they’d found out and how they can consider using it potentially in the UK instead of wood in the future as it’s a lot greener. I’ve met engineers who save poor communities in Bangladesh from flooding, rescue people from earth-quake collapsed buildings and one who is measuring the movements of structures using satellites in space – to make sure they’re not going to collapse suddenly (like the Genoa Bridge). Check out some of them on our online bank of engineer profiles: https://www.ice.org.uk/what-is-civil-engineering/who-are-civil-engineers
